When I first got into 3D printing, it was purely a passion project—a way to bring my creativity to life. Little did I know, this hobby would grow into VisionTek3D, a business where I create custom Hot Wheels dioramas, themed bookmarks, magnets, and more.
But turning a side hustle into something sustainable hasn’t been without challenges. Here are a few lessons I’ve learned along the way:
1️⃣ Start Small, Think Big
I began with a focus on creating models I loved. Over time, I realized the potential for customization and expanded into offering designs based on customer preferences and popular brands.
2️⃣ Adapt to Feedback
Listening to customers helped me refine my designs and expand my offerings. Whether it’s a custom car diorama or a fun, themed bookmark, feedback is invaluable.
3️⃣ Leverage the Right Platforms
Etsy became a key platform for selling physical products, while MakerWorld allowed me to share digital models. Finding the right marketplace is essential to reach your target audience.
4️⃣ Time Management is Everything
Balancing VisionTek3D with other commitments required learning to optimize processes, manage inventory, and set clear boundaries.
5️⃣ Celebrate Progress
Every sale, every custom request, and every positive review has been a reminder that small steps lead to big accomplishments.
For anyone thinking about turning a passion into a business, my advice is to start, learn, and grow. Your journey won’t be perfect, but it will be worth it.
